Sunglasses are just as important for children as for adults. Not only for comfort from the bright sunlight, but even more importantly from harmful UV rays. The eyes of children cannot filter UV light as well as adults, and are therefore more susceptible to the damage from the sun.
The good news is that sunglasses are fun! The girl on the left is using photochromic lenses (lenses which change from clear indoors to dark outdoors) with her prescription, and these lenses not only block UV, but also help protect her indoors while she is viewing technology! Yes, photochromic lenses do effectively act as blue-blocking lenses! The girl on the right is wearing some disposable sunglasses... Unfortunately many of the cheaper sunglasses have cheaper coatings which can wear off quickly with any attempts at cleaning them... Great for a day at the beach in which they might be lost, but not such a great long-term solution for sun protection. Prescription sunglasses or photochromic lens are great for kids that wear glasses, but quality sunglasses can also be purchased for kids as well without prescription.
